Singapore at night

After an hour an a half rest we headed out for a stroll through the botanical gardens and dinner at a restaurant called The White Rabbit.
We had to head out of the city always, so we hopped from one metro to the next. It was only about a 30 min ride. The subways are very clean and efficient. It is a fine-able offense to eat or drink on the subway. That is so different from America or Tokyo. Here are some of the things you can get a fine for:

Makes me think of the American who got canned for chewing gum. That was a long time ago, but I still remember. I never thought I would be traveling to a country with such harsh punishments for what seems like non-harmful crimes. My favorite rule they have is no durians.
We hade to look up what a durian is- it is a fruit that is currently in season. It has a powerful oder that has been described as a cross between an almond, spoiled onion and rotten garbage. We have a a sign in our hotel banning them. Bill wants to try one. We will see.
The botanical gardens ha some beautiful displays. We walked forever, but it was very lovely!
We then hailed a cab and headed for Dempsey Hill. The cabby found Dempsey Hill and we drove around in circles trying to find the restaurant. We had him turn around and stop to look at a map. The cabby kept arguing with us. We finally had to give up and got out to walk.
It was not a long walk, but I was upset at the service.
My mood immediately changed when we walked in to The White Rabbit for dinner.
I had made Bill call ahead on our nap break to make a reservation. Good thing, because we got a round booth off to the side so we could see the whole restaurant. The restaurant is in an old chapel. Dempsey Hill used to be old British barracks and the chapel was for the service members. There are two beautiful stained glass windows on either end of the building. They are original to the building.
For our dining enjoyment, Bill choose a 4 course meal paired with wine and I had a 3 course meal.
Bills meal:
Bill ordered the wrong salad- he wanted one with asparagus and mango, but he got a salted cured fish salad. He said it was quite good. He also ordered a Black Forest Mojito with frambrosia.
Next was a capriccio with black truffle, capers and parmesan. Who knows what black truffle is? But it was tasty! I would say with every bite, Bill had a food-gasam. He would close his eyes and enjoy each bite.
Whoops- I forgot to take a picture, before Bill devoured this meal. It was Beef Bourgiougion (spelling???). The beef had been stewed in a small le crouset pot and it literally melted on your tongue. The mashed potatoes also were so smooth. It was a great main meal!
And his last course was Chocolate Mouleaux. It was baked cake that was still molten gooey in the center. It was paired with ice cream with a orange swirl. There was a white chocolate swirl on the side. He said it was phenomenal!!!
My meal:
To start with I had the lobster bisque with a half lobster tail and claw stewed within. I also ordered a mocktail called the Penelope. It was a strawberry, lemon, pear drink with soda water. This course was lick the bowl good!
My main dish was an Australian raised strip loin. Topped with black truffle sauce with a field green salad on the side. OMG was this a great steak!! I ate every last piece of this! It was so good.
For desert I ordered Crepe Suzette. I love crepes- never had the Suzette version before. It was prepared table side and was lite on fire.
This end result was well worth the wait for the desert. I think the presentation was part of what made the dish so good!
It had orange, lemon and caramelized sugar flavors. I ate every last bit of it.
We were at the restaurant from 7:45pm until 10pm. The longest, most expensive, and best meal (I have ever had to date). What a great night. We had the restaurant call us a cab and went home. It had been a long day. By body aches from all the great sightseeing. A wonderful beginning to an awesome trip!
