Day #9 Bangkok

So we started day 9 a little earlier than yesterday. But not much. After breakfast we hopped in the sky train and made our way to the river. We were headed to tour more temples along the river. Our first stop was Wat Arun or Remple of Dawn. It was built in 1851. It is decorated with sea shells and pieces of Chinese porcelain.
The center tower is 76meters tall.
The surrounding grounds were just beautiful.
Bill was determined we would get to the top. It was not a bad climb up. It was early in the morning, so I was feeling pretty good.
From here you can see how busy the river is with boats. We took a boat to an adjacent pier and then a ferry across the river.
Here is the view of the stairs down. I was not so worried about the height be at the angle- there was no room for error, if you tripped  and stumbled, you would certainly fall to your death- at least that was my fear.
I love all the demon warriors surrounding all the buildings holding up each tier of the building. They are meant to keep bad spirits away.
We took the ferry back across the river and walked to the reclining Buddha- Wat Pho. A beautiful, yet different style temple.
The buildings are covered in small mirrored tiles of all colors.
This is one of the oldest, largest and most significant temples in Bangkok.
The interior worship areas were just breath taking. It is really unlike anything I have seen before. I really think I like the style of Thai Culture the best of what we have seen so far. It is so unique.
Here is the head of the reclining Buddha.
Here is a shot of the whole Buddha laying down. It is 46meters long. You can see the elaborate carvings on the bottom of its feet.
Next we entered the Grand Palace. It was stunning. It is by far one of the most opulent places I have ever visited.
I live the demon guards. They are so cool!
This is the building the houses the golden and jade Buddha.
The statues remind me of something out of mythology.
I really enjoyed seeing the contrast between the old statue and the restored building with all of its glitter.
This was a model of Ankgor Wat- we will visit the real thing in 6 days. Can you spot the sweet kitty face?
This is an entrance. Inside the the Buddha. We went in, but there are no photos inside.
Here we are out front of the palace.
I think this rivals Buckingham Palace- all that gold and great architecture.
The rules to enter the grand palace area are very strict. No shorts, skirts have to be past you knees and no sleevless. We both dressed appropriately for the day. We were ok to enter! Other wise you had to rent clothes from the gate.
After the palace we visited a fort and I sat in a park to rest while Bill took pictures. Later that evening we had a river boat cruise booked.
