First we stopped by the flamingo pound- the pelican was more interesting than the flamingos.
This peacock was either protecting his mate or looking for a lady, we couldn't figure out which one.
Don't know what this bird is called, but he totally looks prehistoric.

These guys followed us around for quite some time.
We walked all over that park. It was neat being in a. Free flying aviary. We had a picture taken with about 6 birds all sitting on us- including a hawk.
After that we booked a cab to take us to the national mosque and the Batu Caves.
This was a view of the Patronas Towers and the KL tower leaving the Bird Park.
We could not go into the mosque, it was during a prayer time.
I have never been around so many Muslims. There are more women in the full covered dress than I have ever seen. There are even Separate bathrooms for Muslim women. I was very curious so at our hotel is says for the Muslim women to go to the 2nd floor bathroom. I wanted to know what was so different. It was not a different bathroom, we decided it was less frequented by westerners.
Next our cabby took us to the Batu Caves.
There were monkeys everywhere. You had to be mindful of your stuff because they would take water bottles and food out of your hands.
Look how tall that statue is, that is huge!
Then on to climb the 211 stairs. I was going to take it a landing at a time.

I made it up the stairs before a lady who started before me. I couldn't understand her actual words, but she pointed to my belly, and made a huffing comment- I believe she was miffed that a pregnant lady made it up the stairs before she did.
Here we are inside the caves. Once you walk in there is a sink hole that crests an opening to the sky.
Here we are inside the sink whole.
On the way down it started to pour down rain. And we got soaked. We pressed our luck visiting Southeast Asia during the rainy season. We were bound to get stuck in the rain. We thought we would wait it out, but it never stopped raining. So we ran to the cab in the rain. There was not a spot on either of us that was dry. Our cabby had lined the back seat with newspapers. We had him take us home to the hotel to change into dry clothes and wait for dryer times. Got to love Bill's enthusiasm.
Out cab was going to wait 90 mins for us to eat, walk up and down and the. Take us to the next spot and drop is off. I counted the stairs on the way down. There is a total of 397 stairs. Apparently in the brochure they did not count the ones inside the caves. Going up and then down means we walked 794 stairs.
