Day two Taipei

The time difference in Taipei from Okinawa is only one hour, we woke up like we were at home. Which was 7am or 8am Oki time. I was well rested from the night before. I took a 14 migraine recovery nap. I felt like a million bucks.
We were lazy and mulled around our luxurious room Until about 9am. Then we went downstairs for our included breakfast.
After breakfast we headed out to see the sights. First we caught the metro to head out of the city limits to see the National Palace Museum. This is where all the Taiwanese treasures that were liberated from China are kept. It was a very nice collection. The only part I did not like was all of the tours. Big groups that go slow and get in your way.
Next we walked through the park near the museum. It was a very cute park with lots of Asian accents. Like ponds, bridges and pagodas.
We waited for the bus to take us back to the metro station. From the metro station we walked down a back alley and found a brick fire pizza place. It was a great place for lunch. Bill had a margarita pizza and I had a Hawaiian pizza. This was by far the best pizza we have had since the states. So Good!
After lunch we walked to Chiang Kai-Shek's palace gardens. Another beautiful walk. I swear I need to start wearing a pedometer to count how many miles we have walked. I swear we are approaching a marathon length. After a long stroll through the garden we headed back to the metro.
We got off at a group of temples. We went to the Confuscious temple and the Baoan Temple. Both were beautiful and very elaborately decorated. At the Baoan Temple there was more Chinese New Year Festivities. After another long day we headed back to the hotel for a little rest.
After a short nap we headed out for dinner. We went to a famous dim sum restaurant called Din Tai Fung. We met a charming lady who helped us order our food. We had to wait to be seated, but hoped it would be worth it. We ordered. Shrimp, pork, spicy shrimp, pot stickers and hot and sour soup. Bill kept saying we over ordered. But we ate it all! The soup and the spicy shrimp were the best.
After the dim sum place we went to Taipei 101. The tallest building. It is next to a ritzy mall. We walked through the mall where could not afford a thing to the ticket counter, only to be disappointed that the building had closed 15 mins prior to our arrival.
Oh well, on to the next sight. First we had to take photos at these silly scenes. Bill loves his staged photos. Then we went to Shalin Night Market. It is one of the largest in Taiwan. It is so strange to see what they sell. It is a bunch of junk. There is strange food and mainly I am just uncomfortable with all the heckling. But we must experience the whole city.
We finally headed home at around midnight. It had been a long night. I was so tired, my feet hurt and my back was so achey. We had walked an million miles.
Taiwan is a great city. I had a blast seeing all the sights and eating great food! Defiantly another great trip for the Morrison's.
