To celebrate our one year wedding anniversary, we went to New York City for the weekend! Bill and I might be world travelers, but neither of us had been to New York. We were both very excited! We left around 6:30pm on Friday night and returned to Newport on Sunday. I have posted a few pictures, most pictures are on Bill's camera, these are from mine!
I thought that sign was funny. In Texas, people rarely use their horn, in the North East, they use it all the time, in NYC there is a constant honking from Taxi Cabs. Apparently this warning is not enforced. This picture is taken at the MoMA, Museum of Modern Art. This was a fantastic museum with all of my favorite artists! We were sitting in the sculpture garden, people watching.
For our anniversary dinner, we went uptown to Times Square. The cab ride there was interesting, we were about 2 blocks away and all of a sudden, the cabby decides to run a light, right in front of a cop. So we get pulled over. The cops come up to the car, the cabby is playing dumb and they are arguing, all the time the meter is running and we are running late to our dinner reservation. So I ask the cop on the passenger side if we can get out. She says yes, but starts telling them cabby we should get out for free so we don't have to be summoned to court to appear as a witness. At this point, there is a lot of loud heated discussions, I have to interrupt again, he stops the meter, we pay and we get out. We walk the last 2 blocks to the restaurant. We had our concierge make us a reservation at a place called The View. It is a rotating restaurant at the top of the Marriott right in the heart of Times Square. The food was wonderful! We had a steak that was quite possibly the best steak I have ever had! They also brought us a special desert, chocolate mouse with a happy anniversary chocolate on top!
After dinner we walked around Times Square a bit, it was midnight, but you would have never guessed based on how many people were around and all of the lights! This was my favorite place, such a neat sight!
We love Pollocks! This picture was taken at the MET- Metropolitan Museum of Art! By far my favorite museum we visited! It was huge! We spent a little over an hour there, but probably only say 1/4 of what they had on display!
This is outside the MET! Pretty fountains and ornate buildings always make Bill want to take a photo. He is the photography king, we probably took over 2000 photos in NYC!
To begin our trip in NYC we dropped our bags off at our hotel and headed out the the Empire State Building...if you want to go to the top aim to get there right before closing, there are no lines and the observation deck is empty!
You can see in the back ground the Chrysler Building, Bill thinks it is prettier than the Empire State Building. It was great to get our bearings in the city and see how big it is from such a great vantage point.
Our weekend was fantastic! We walked a million miles, but saw a ton! We did not make it out to the Statue of Liberty, or to a Broadway Show, that will be on the must do list the next time we head to the City!
YEA! A blog post! NYC is fun to visit...glad you guys had a good time.
